As an outsource marketing manager, what does a typical day look like?
What better way to describe what an outsource marketing manager does than to pull back the curtain for a peek into what a typical day involves. Below is an account of a recent day…
- Planning for a catch-up meeting with a client
- UAT (user acceptance testing) on a client’s two websites following the web developers doing an upgrade and update on their platform and plugins. This involved checking and troubleshooting on whether any of the functionality on the test sites was behaving differently to the current sites
- Catch-up meeting with client over Zoom, running through the work in progress and priorities for the coming month
- Organising a meeting with our social media executive to brief client team on some account changes and another meeting to discuss digital strategy with their owner
- Email client in response to their query about whether another supplier’s invoice was within budget because I have been budget tracking for them
- Arrange meeting to discuss the induction of a new marketing executive into client’s business
- Email a client to congratulate them for going live on their new website that I did copywriting for (and offered them help with some client stories)
- Prompt a client’s team who have been assigned the task of writing technical articles to remind them of the deadline and follow up with cinemas about arrangements for a client event
- Received some updates to client e-mailing list to edit before their next campaign goes out
- Notified by the cinemas that the release date of movie for client event has been brought forward – pass on information to client
- Organised to meet with a prospective digital marketing supplier for future collaboration on client projects
- Followed up with a prospective client in response to receiving a referral from a business advisor (who I have previously worked with when he was with a client)
- Spent time analysing reports that were recently pulled on own website performance – interpreting results and setting actions
This was by no means everything I did that day, however, hopefully gives you some insight into the types of things I get involved with for my clients as their outsourced marketing manager. It’s very varied and I love that!
The following day my boss (me!!) gave me the day off for my birthday – an annual ritual I deem to be a significant celebration of being self-employed because it represents the freedom and flexibility that comes with having your own business.
It is important to stop and smell the roses!
